H&M Collabs With Mexican Designer Lorena Saravia
"Rejoicify" Over Fashion & Beauty Wicked Collabs
Gap x Sandy Liang Celebrates Girlhood Nostalgia
After its last buzzy designer collaboration with Magda Butrym, H&M is releasing another exciting partnership on Thursday, October 16. Taking a coveted spot on the retailer’s guest designer roster is Mexican designer Lorena Saravia and her namesake label.
Saravia launched her brand in 2010, and while she may not be a household name to the average H&M shopper, her distinct designs have earned her recognition — including a spot on Forbes Mexico’s 2025 list of the top 100 powerful women in the country.
“I really believe that we are part of this new generation of Mexican designers that are offering the world different brands that are really contemporary and really respect Mexican fashion,” Saravia tells Refinery29 from her studio in Mexico City. “The legacy that we are creating, and that I have in my family, was a really important part of this story. The DNA of our brand is this powerful woman that wants to make a difference and wants to create a legacy for generations for the rest of time.”
Contemporary yet deeply rooted in heritage, Saravia pulls from larger Mexican culture — including a modern version of chaps — and nature — explaining that the faded, dark, brown-ish denim wash looks like dirt. The 28-piece collection includes artisan-crafted, Western-inspired pieces spanning outerwear, matching sets, flowing evening dresses, logo-embroidered knits and loungewear, and even cowboy boots, all channeling a signature masculine-meets-feminine style.
“I come from a large, predominantly female family where each generation strives to empower the next,” Saravia said in a press release. “I see women as multidimensional — they are career-driven, powerful, and possess a kind of magic and an extraordinary strength. My hope is that every woman who wears my designs feels inspired and empowered.”
Speaking of multi-faceted women, Saravia called out the fringe suede jacket as “the most powerful piece” of the collection, noting its versatility. It’s for the working woman in the city as much as it’s for the mom in rural or suburban areas — both will feel and look cool in it.
H&M’s creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson agrees with this, telling Refinery29: “The way she designs — and empowers women with her designs — you feel really good about yourself when you wear her clothes,” adding that she hopes H&M customers get exposed to Saravia’s work and Mexican design through this collaboration.
Drawing inspiration from “her heritage, family, and the strength of the matriarchal line,” Saravia also infused personal details throughout the collection. One standout: lion earrings inspired by a pair her grandmother used to wear. She also looked to iconic Mexican women like artist Frida Kahlo and entertainer María Félix — referenced through tailored suiting pieces and elegant gowns.
Of course, no H&M collab would be complete without a curated (and quick-to-sell-out) range of accessories. In this drop, expect wide-brim hats, woven crossbody bags, those aforementioned earrings, and cowboy boots, along with one of Johansson’s favorites, a brown leather belt, which she wore to the studio.
When describing the collection’s aesthetic in three words, Saravia confidently says: “Mexican, contemporary, and sophisticated,” while Johannson adds: “coherent, versatile, and strong.” So if you’re looking to feel empowered and get a taste of genuine Mexican craft and design at H&M-friendly prices — between $40 earrings and a $550 suede jacket — this is your chance to get it.
The H&M x Lorena Saravia collaboration launches in select stores and online on October 16 at 10 a.m. EST — and is sure to sell out quickly.
